One of the most transformative transport projects is currently moving on to its next phase of public consultation for the expansion and electrification of the Cork Metropolitan Rail Network. 1. Blarney / Stoneview

The station is expected to support the development of the proposed Stoneview Urban Expansion Area.
2. Monard
The Monard Station will support a planned town of up to 10,000 homes making it one of the most significant transit led developments in Ireland. The station will encourage a reduced car dependency lifestyle with high-frequency, electrified rail access to Cork city.
3. Blackpool / Kilbarry
This station aims to provide vital connectivity to the norther suburbs and commercial zones of Blackpool serving both residents and working commuter alike. Located near Kilbarry, it is expected to help reduce traffic congestion by offering a viable alternative to driving.
4. Tivoli
The Tivoli station will play a key role in the regeneration of the former Tivoli Docks, which is envisioned to be a future mixed use residential and commercial addition to the city. The station will service as a direct rail link for this planned community, enhancing Cork’s eastward growth corridor.
5. Dunkettle
A major interchange hub, Dunkettle will provide integrated connections between road and rail, particularly for those travelling from East Cork, Midleton and Cobh. 6. Ballynoe
To service a growing suburban population, Ballynoe’s new station will provide residents with fast and efficient access to Cork city and beyond. It will encourage greater public transport usage and support new residental developments.
7. Carrigtwohill West
In addition to the existing station in Carrigtwohill, this western extension will cater to the new housing developments and industrial growth in the area. It would support the continued expansion of this important commuter town.
8. Water-Rock
Localated just east of Midleton, Water-Rock station will anchor a planned sustainable housing development of several thousand homes. As part of Cork County Council’s Local Area Plan, the station will be a vital component of the this new high-density, transit focused community.
Electrifying the Cork Rail Network
With the introduction of these eight stations, the wider plan is to electrify the Cork Commuter Rail Network. This will make it the first regional rail network in Ireland to go fully electric.
